Additional Information
Commonwealth War Graves Commission Records state Private JONES name, in the English form, as DAVID. Family and other documents record his name as DAI. He was killled in action on Sunday the 13th August 1944.
Son of Mr and Mrs Will Jones of 13 Jersey Road, Blaengwnfi, a village in the Neath Port Talbot County area of South Wales, United Kingdom. DAI JONES was 1 of 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls, one of whom was a younger brother called Clifford.1
Private Clifford Jones2 served with 4 Battalion, Welch Regiment and was Killed, 5 weeks after his brother DAI JONES, in Belgium on the 19th September 1944.
Their father, Will Jones, was a coal miner who, although in a reserve occupation, enlisted in the British forces. Both brothers had played for the local football team, Gwynfi United Football Club.
DAI JONES, and his wife Glenys, moved from South Wales to Middlesex when he was called up into the British Army. They had one daughter, Pam, who was 4 years old when her dad, DAI JONES, was killed in Normandy. His younger brother, Private Clifford Jones was unmarried.
