Additional Information

 

DEREK LAND had two brothers and a sister. His parents, Harry and Annie, lived at Ivy Bank Cottage, between the Smithy and Ivy Bank, in Baxterley, Warwickshire. Annie Land was well known in the village of Baxterly, for selling poppies around Remembrance Day.

 

19 year old Private Geoffrey Land, DEREK's brother, lived in Nuneaton Warwickshire with his wife Nancy Alice, before joining the 7 Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He was killed in Italy on 21st January 1944 and is buried in Minturno War Cemetery, Italy.

 

Less than 7 months later, Private DEREK LAND was killed on the battlefields of Normandy.
