Additional Information

CHARLES WILFRED STANFIELD was born in Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on the 12th January 1918. Married to Elsie, he had only seen his daughter, Carol, about 6 times before he went over to Normandy in the Summer of 1944.

Although his wife Elsie was devistated by his death, she ensured his daughter would remember him by talking about him and keeping the photograph, below, on display in their home. Today his memory lives on through his daughter Carol, grand daughters Teri and Toni, great granddaughter Blue and his 3 great, great grandchildren Charlie (named in his memory), Tommy and Ami. He is affectionally known as grandad Charlie by all his grandchildren.

His wife Elsie passed away in 2007.

Carol Blythe nee Stanfield

Charles Wilfred Stanfield is my father and although I have no memory of him as I was only 17 months old when he was killed. His memory has always lived on. My mother Elsie Stanfield joined him in 2007. She never got over his death.
