My great uncle Captain James E. Risher was my mother's mother's brother. I am honored to be named after him. Uncle Jimmy made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom on August 13, 1944 (three days after my mother's first birthday). My grandmother was so proud of her brother. My grandmother loved Uncle Jimmy and use to tell us great stories from their childhood. She missed and honored Uncle Jimmy until her passing in April 2001. They are truly the "Greatest Generation."

Here's to your dog tags Uncle Son. Mum loves you and has very fond memories of you. Ian and I hope you did not suffer too much in the corn field at the Chateau. (sorry couldnt resist attaching the image! haha!) You survived Dunkirk by the seat of your pants (shame about ditchin the swag bag eh!) to come home to stay with your loving sister (our granma god bless her) only to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Am sure we would have had lots of fun and perhaps you could have kept sister Lily on the straight and narrow too! I know you both were very close. Anyway god bless you! love from your great niece xxx

Stanley Turner was my Grandfather who was killed in action on 18th July 1944. He left behind a daughter, whom he never got to see grow up and a wife, Elizabeth. I visited his grave for the first time in 2015 and will be returning this year (2016). This website and all the volunteers who maintain it are a credit to these fallen heroes.

I'll be taking a rose to the war memorial today, but I don't need a special day to remember you. You are always in my thoughts. My dear father who was killed before I could get to know him.
